A recurring childhood dream or experience involving a familiar yet alien-seeming grey-skinned figure with large dark eyes. The later interpretation of this figure as an alien or “Grey” belongs to the artist’s subsequent investigation, not to the original event itself.
Later research into the modern Grey entity, including questions about its appearance, cultural history and relationship to reports of unusual experiences. The investigation asks how much of the Dream Man image was personal experience and how much may have been shaped by later cultural knowledge.
Older folklore surrounding the Sandman provides another cultural layer around sleep, dreams and night-time visitors. It is included as a possible comparison, not as an explanation of the Dream Man experience.
The investigation gradually moved from individual experiences toward ideas of collective consciousness, synchronisation and shared mental states. These ideas later became important to the language surrounding the music and the experiments.
Research into Clive Potter introduced a model in which UFO phenomena could be considered through collective consciousness, archetypes and interactions between conscious and unconscious processes. Later material associated with Potter also discusses AI as a mediating or transformative intelligence. These are external theories being documented because they intersect with the artist’s investigation.
During the 2011–2013 creative period, music, altered states, dreams, technology, aliens, consciousness and synchronisation increasingly became part of the same conceptual field. The archive does not assume that this convergence was caused by an external intelligence. It records that the connections became meaningful to the artist.
