UNFOLD THE VOID

UNFOLD THE VOID
Unfold The Void represents an important point in the development of the ideas behind Silicon Psychosis.
The piece emerged from a series of sound experiments that developed alongside an evolving theory about what sound might do, influenced in part by Clive Potter.
What began as experimentation eventually became a specific work and then an unusual listening experiment involving synchronised listeners.
This page follows that development and asks what, if anything, the experiment revealed.
“Ian and Silicons track created with the intention of manifesting Ufo’s. First attempt through attentive listening occurred at 11.11pm GMT, on March 15 2013. Several people online synchronised listening, to amplify the intent. 2 red orbs manifested above Newcastle Cathedral of St Nicholas.”
WHAT WAS INTENDED
The experiment was designed around a specific intention: collective attentive listening, synchronisation and the attempt to produce or observe a UFO manifestation. The track itself was treated as an instrument within the experiment.
WHAT WAS REPORTED
The account describes two red orbs appearing above Newcastle Cathedral during the listening event. The archive records this as the artist’s report of what happened, rather than as an established identification of the objects.
WHAT CAN BE ESTABLISHED
The experiment, its stated intention, the date, the recording and the later written account are archiveable historical material. The relationship between the intended 4:32 point and the reported observation is an important question for further reconstruction.
WHAT IS NOT ESTABLISHED
The archive does not currently establish that the observed orbs were UFOs, that the listening caused their appearance, or that the event demonstrates a mechanism of manifestation.
WHAT REMAINS UNRESOLVED
What exactly occurs at 4:32 in the recording? Was that timing specified before the event? What contemporaneous records survive? What did the other listeners observe? What can be independently verified from the surviving material?
EVIDENCE TRAIL
CONTEMPORANEOUS: material from the period of the experiment, where surviving.
NEAR-CONTEMPORANEOUS: later records that can help establish sequence or context.
REMEMBERED: details supplied from later recollection.
INTERPRETED: meanings or explanations developed after the event.
UNVERIFIED: claims for which the archive does not yet have sufficient independent support.
