COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS

Sometimes the boundary between individual and collective experience seemed to disappear.

The idea of a shared consciousness became part of the story surrounding the music.

Whether it describes something real, something experienced, or something constructed through interpretation remains unresolved.

This page gathers the traces.

A thread connecting collective music experiences, Jungian ideas, synchronised listening and the possibility of shared mental space.

THE FIRST FIELD

The artist's early-1990s Exodus experience is remembered as a moment in which sound, mind and collective emotion seemed to become one field. This memory later became linked to Mindship Man and to the idea that music can synchronise people.

ARTIST TESTIMONY // LATER RECORD

THE IDEA ENTERS THE MUSIC

After the 2011–2013 creative period, the artist began interpreting the emerging sequence through ideas about collective consciousness. The late sequence moves toward explicit listening and synchronisation: Calling All Aliens, Cerebral Parsley, Sound Is Holographic, There Are No Memories In The Moment, Asydo Lemem, Noises In My Heads and Agapism.

The descriptions attached to these tracks were written after the sequence emerged, so they document a later interpretation of the music rather than proving that interpretation was present during composition.

JUNG / POTTER / PALMER / WORLD WALKER

The artist's later research brought Jungian collective consciousness into conversation with UFO ideas. Lucy Palmer described herself as a “World Walker”; Ian understood the term as referring to movement between worlds or states, potentially including human and Grey forms.

Palmer's later book records her meeting Ian through Lynda and describes music as his medium. The exact route by which Clive Potter's work entered this network remains uncertain. Potter may have preceded Palmer, followed Palmer, or been encountered independently.

This is a reconstruction of a network of ideas, not a demonstration that the ideas or claimed phenomena were objectively connected.

THE EXPERIMENTAL EDGE

Unfold The Void turned the idea into an experiment: several people listened online at the same time, with the intention of amplifying a specific sonic intention. The artist alone reports seeing two red orbs above Newcastle Cathedral.

Collective listening is documented. The claimed causal relationship between listening and the observed orbs remains unresolved.
