THE NARRATIVE

THE NARRATIVE
Floating On An Alien Ocean begins with life in an alien environment. Rainy Beaches marks the movement out of the sea and onto land, followed by Crabs, Sheep And Other Beautiful Things — the extraordinary diversification and complexity of life on Earth.
With Beautiful Angelic Fairy Princess, humanity appears: innocent, curious and playful, exploring this new world. Cat Stalking becomes part of a search for answers, with the human beginning to pursue the mysterious Machine Elves.
The Machine Elves suggest a glimpse behind the surface of reality — hidden knowledge, intelligence and perhaps the circuitry behind the board. Physician Magician represents humanity becoming scientist, philosopher and magician, capable of understanding and perhaps changing reality.
Pyramids Of The Global Matrix introduces the possibility of a deeper system of control on Earth. Encroaching Psychotic Entity brings the threat closer, while Humanoid Space Invaders raises the possibility of beings from elsewhere — or perhaps another reflection of ourselves.
Quixotic Hive Mind introduces the idea of collective intelligence, while Arachnoid God Destroyer becomes a vast, web-like force capable of enclosing Earth and challenging our understanding of God. Humans V’s Aliens V’s Robots represents the resulting division, leading to Deep Space Malfunction and a world falling into disharmony.
Calling All Aliens then becomes a call to others who possess knowledge. Cerebral Parsley suggests knowledge as nourishment for the mind, while Sound Is Holographic introduces the possibility of sound as a tool for collective experience.
There Are No Memories In The Moment turns towards consciousness and the nature of shared experience. Asydo Lemem develops the idea of the same melody and synchronisation, while Noises In My Heads brings the investigation back towards the complexities of individual and collective mind.
Agapism represents love as an alternative to division. Mindship Man suggests a new form of consciousness, while Civilisation Reset Button imagines the possibility of creating a new civilisation.
Finally, Unfold The Void takes the transformation further: the UFO becomes connected not simply with something external, but with the possibility of bringing something within consciousness into the external world — the exteriorisation of the soul.
This is the narrative I eventually came to see in the sequence. I did not consciously set out to create it as a twenty-four-part story; it emerged as I listened back and began to recognise relationships between the music, titles, sounds and ideas.
